From
the Librarians Desk
The George Washington Masonic National Memorial recently hired a
new librarian, Dustin B. Smith, who has been working with Larissa
Watkins from the Supreme Council, in order to effectively update
and organize the collections of the Memorial. Through this library
partnership, a unique opportunity has arisen. Both libraries were
in need of a library catalog that could be accessed on the Internet.
The Supreme Council has purchased a new catalog that the Memorial
will also be using in the future. Beginning this summer, patrons
will be able to access the catalog from both the Supreme Council
Library and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Library
online. Provided by the Sirsi Corporation, the new catalog will
be fully searchable and the librarians of each library will be
able to share data and cataloging information. An important feature
of the catalog is its ability to store images, text, audio and
video, which will allow non-book materials from the collections
to be added to the searchable database. Sirsi serves more than
10,000 individual libraries of all types and sizes including academic,
consortia, corporate, government, public, school and special libraries
and will enhance our libraries for our patrons use. Watch our library
web page for additional information on our new library catalog.
Yours sincerely,
