Every Scottish Rite Clinic should consider creating an Internet website.

In today's fast-paced society, people are finding the Internet provides a wealth of useful information on an almost immediate basis. This easily accessible source is quickly becoming an important educational and marketing tool. The Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center at Richmond, Inc., wanted to provide parents and professionals with information that could help answer questions regarding our program. We wanted to educate about speech and hearing disorders, calm unfounded fears when possible, and urge parents to take action if they see warning signs of communication disorder in their children.

In 1998, our center started compiling information for our future website and submitting grant proposals for the funding of such a site. We knew the importance of our task, and after some diligence on our part, we receive a grant that allowed us to pursue it in the professional and creative manner that we envisioned. Grants may be obtained from a variety of organizations and, sometimes, from individuals interested in our work. We provided the developers of the site, easily found through word of mouth or the telephone directory, with everything from the desired format and pictures, to text copy, and clip art. Over a period of time, we carefully reviewed and revised what they proposed. We believe the result to be a very ample, colorful, and attractive Internet site, with plenty of eye-catching animation. More importantly, it contains concise information presented in an easy-to-read form. Parents with specific questions are provided with the means of contacting us directly via an e-mail link.

Creating the website for the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center at Richmond, Inc., was a labor of love. It has been accessed by over 800 individuals in the few short months it has been on line, and the number of page views increases every day. It is rewarding to know that families with concerns regarding speech and hearing disorders, day or night, have helpful information at their fingertips. We are pleased with the end result and feel that it not only accomplished what we set out to do, but also, in the process, gave recognition to the fine work of the Scottish Rite. Please visit our site and feel free to use what we have done to inspire you to create a website for your own clinic, center, or program!
