Special mementos and events will celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Supreme Council.

In addition to the events planned for the 200th anniversary of the Supreme Council, as described in the November 1999 Scottish Rite Journal, there are special bicentennial memento items in preparation as well as an exhibit for display at the Charleston Museum. Memento items include a commemorative medallion, a collector's quality 200th anniversary plate, and a comprehensive pictorial history of the Supreme Council.

The commemorative plate will have the portraits of 17 Sovereign Grand Commanders, from the first to the present, arranged around its rim. Scottish Rite artist, Ill. Bro. John D. Melius, 33°, after thorough research, has completed painting full-color portraits of each Sovereign Grand Commander. Later, these full-size portraits will be permanently displayed in the House of the Temple, but first they will be depicted in miniature on this beautiful commemorative plate. Only a limited number of these unique plates will be produced. Each will be a quality item worthy of display in homes and offices. A picture of the plate will appear in the Journal in a later issue.

A 250-page pictorial history of the Supreme Council, in preparation for almost two years, is scheduled for completion later this year. Several eminent scholars have been involved: Mr. Henry Scammell as writer; Dr. William L. Fox, 33°, as editor; Mr. Frank Glickman of Frank Glickman Inc., Boston, as book designer; Mr. Mark A. Fastoso as photo researcher; and Ill. Art deHoyos, 33°, Grand Archivist and Grand Historian of the Supreme Council, as project historian. The book will be a marvelous collection of rare and historic photographs, with complementary text, displayed in a large-format coffee-table-type book. Scottish Rite Masons, as well as others interested in Masonic and American history, will find this attractive volume worthy of their libraries, and it will make an elegant, inspirational gift. As its publication date approaches, the book's availability will be noted in the Scottish Rite Journal.

Also, a Scottish Rite exhibit for display in the Charleston Museum is being designed by Supreme Council Librarian and Curator, Mrs. Joan K. Sansbury, assisted by Ill. Bro. deHoyos. The exhibit will be first opened for viewing, by invitation only due to space limitations, on Sunday, September 30, 2001, at 5:00 pm with a reception following in the Charleston Museum. Thereafter, the exhibit will be open to the general public. The exhibit is being arranged and displays constructed to permit its later availability as a traveling exhibit to Valleys throughout the Southern Jurisdiction. Again, more information in this regard also will be published in the months ahead.
