The Scottish Rite Medicare Supplement Plans

Helping Provide Security In Your Retirement Years

Medicare provides a starting point to help us cover the increased medical costs we may face as retirees. During our working years, Medicare requires us to pay into a fund that is used to cover medical expenses we incur later in life. Since many of us will lose our employee insurance benefits when we retire, we may be left paying more out-of-pocket costs for medical care. And, Medicare alone will not be enough, because it was never intended to pay all medical costs.

That's why Medicare Supplement insurance policies are important. They help protect retirees from out-of-pocket expenses that can be difficult to budget on a fixed or limited income. In 1992, the government standardized the Medicare Supplement plans by offering a 10-plan menu of benefits. The ten plans are labeled A through J. Each plan offers a different level of coverage, ranging from just covering your deductibles and coinsurance, to foreign travel and prescription drug benefits. You choose the plan that best meets your health needs and personal budget.

In addition, as they become available in your state, you will have the option of selecting new benefits and coverage choices which are being phased in under the Medicare + Choice program as a result of legislation passed by Congress in 1997.
Why is it a smart decision to consider a Medicare Supplement insurance policy? It will help you meet deductible payments and expenses not covered by Medicare. Moreover, having a solid health insurance plan can help free you to enjoy the hard-earned pleasures of retirement.
