Early reservations to attend the 2001 bicentennial celebration of the Supreme Council in Charleston, South Carolina, are highly recommended.

It is not too early to start your planning for attending the historic 200th anniversary of the Supreme Council, Southern Jurisdiction, USA, in Charleston, South Carolina, September 30 to October 3, 2001. This event is now less than two years away. Arrangements already have been made with more than a dozen hotels (listed below) in Charleston and nearby metropolitan areas. Blocks of rooms should still be available for Scottish Rite attendees during that period.

Formal ceremonies for the Supreme Council Session will take place in the newly completed Convention Center complex in North Charleston. Adjoining the center is a new Embassy Suites Hotel. But nearby are several other accommodating hotels, including Charleston Place whose logo is pictured above. The Charleston historic district also has a number of fine hotels and is only about 20 minutes driving time from the Convention Center. Arrangements will be made to link the hotels, which have large blocks of Scottish Rite attendees, with free bus service to and from the Convention Center.

The series of bicentennial celebration events will begin with an ecumenical church service in the Convention Center on Sunday morning, September 30, and will conclude with the Gala Banquet in the Convention Center on Wednesday evening, October 3. Thus to attend the full Session, it is recommended you plan to arrive in Charleston not later than Saturday, September 29, and leave after Wednesday, October 3, 2001. There are many places to visit in historic Charleston and the surrounding area, so you may wish to spend additional time there sight-seeing.

The hotels which have reserved blocks of rooms for us are listed here in alphabetical order, together with the general location of the hotel, price per night (applicable taxes not included), the number of reserved rooms, and a telephone number for making reservations, if still available.

There are many hotels and motels across the Charleston metropolitan area in addition to those listed above. Rooms have not been contracted to date with these hotels, but space at this time may still be available. Even so, Charleston is a very popular city for tourist, business, and convention groups. Thus, it is wise to make early reservations if you intend to attend the 2001 Biennial Session of the Supreme Council.

There will be additional information about the 200th anniversary in the Scottish Rite Journal in the months ahead. Stay tuned!
