LIEUTENANT GRAND COMMANDER

Ill. Ronald A. Seale, 33°, was appointed as Deputy of the Supreme Council, Orient of Louisiana on January 1, 1994; crowned as S.G.I.G. for Louisiana, October 8, 1995; and installed as Lieutenant Grand Commander on October 5, 1999.

Beginning his Masonic career in 1962 as a member and then Past Master Councilor, Pelican Chapter, Order of DeMolay, he served as Chapter Dad of Pelican Chapter, General Counsel to Louisiana DeMolay Foundation, and Deputy Member of the International Supreme Council of the Order of DeMolay. He also served on DeMolay advisory committees of the Baton Rouge Scottish Rite Bodies and the Grand Lodge of Louisiana.

Raised a Master Mason in 1969 in East Gate Lodge No. 452, Baton Rouge, Ill. Seale was Master of his Lodge in 1988 and served on two committees of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana, Law & Jurisprudence and Youth Services. Ill. Seale is active in several of the Degrees in the Baton Rouge Scottish Rite Bodies, including roles as Degree Master of the 5th Degree and co-director of the 31st Degree. For his many services to our Order he was invested with the rank and decoration of K.C.C.H. in 1977 and coroneted an Inspector General Honorary in 1993.

Ill. Seale graduated from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University in 1973. He entered law practice in Baton Rouge in 1974 and is a member of the Louisiana State Bar, American Bar Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, and International Association of Defense Council.


GRAND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Rear Admiral William G. Sizemore, 33°, Grand Cross, retired from active duty with the United States Navy in 1982 after 38 years of service. He has served The Supreme Council since 1983 as Director of Education and Americanism, and since July 1989 as Grand Executive Director. In this capacity, Ill. Sizemore oversees the Southern Jurisdiction’s 221 Valleys, supervises the operations and maintenance of the House of the Temple, acts as Business Manager to the Scottish Rite Journal, and handles the multitude of other administrative responsibilities associated with this position.

The office of the Grand Executive Director maintains a computerized master record with current information on all Scottish Rite members, administers a centralized dues billing system, and provides guidance to the Valleys on various Supreme Council policies and procedural matters. Continuing in the position of Director of Education and Americanism as well, Admiral Sizemore administers a multifaceted program. Each year he reviews numerous applications for the Public School Administration and the Shepherd Scholarships, The George Washington University Scottish Rite Scholarships and Fellowships, the Scottish Rite Paul R. Kach, 33°, DeMolay Essay Contest, and serves as a guest speaker at various Masonic functions.

In addition, he oversees the distribution of the broad range of materials The Supreme Council publishes and the films or videotapes it produces. Under the broad term of Americanism, he further contributes to overall Masonic education by promoting our programs in support of American constitutional government and the philosophy and ideals that secure our republic. Central to these programs are the many pamphlets and books published by The Supreme Council, many copies of which are supplied through the local Valleys to public schools in the Southern Jurisdiction.


GRAND ARCHIVIST AND GRAND HISTORIAN

Ill. Arturo de Hoyos, 33°, is a Past Master and Endowed Life Member of McAllen Lodge No. 1110, McAllen, Texas, and a dual Life Member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of San Antonio, Texas (since 1988), and Santa Fe, New Mexico. An expert on Freemasonry in general, he is the leading authority on the Scottish Rite's early history, official literature, and ritual development. He has published numerous articles and books on Freemasonry, and co-authored, with Ill. S. Brent Morris, 33°, G.C., the popular work, Is It True What They Say About Freemasonry? The Methods of Anti-Masons.

In 1999, he joined the full-time executive staff at the Supreme Council. In addition to serving as Grand Archivist and Grand Historian, Ill. de Hoyos assists the Grand Commander and Grand Executive Director on special projects, advises the Supreme Council on constitutional and statutory matters, and monitors international Scottish Rite relations.

He is a member of the Knight York Cross of Honor, the Allied Masonic Degrees, the Red Cross of Constantine, the Royal Order of Scotland, Society of Blue Friars, and holds the IX°, Knight Grand Cross, in the Societatis Rosicruciana in Civitatibus Fœderatis. He was the first-ever recipient of the Knight Grand Cross award of the Grand College of Rites of the United States, having served for several years as its Grand Archivist and editor of its annual transactions, Collectanea. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Scottish Rite Research Society.


MANAGING EDITOR, SCOTTISH RITE JOURNAL

The Managing Editor of the Scottish Rite Journal is Dr. John W. Boettjer, 33°, G.C.. His responsibilities include complete preparation and supervision of the magazine from initial editing to final printing. In addition to his editorial duties, Illustrious Boettjer responds to reader inquiries, oversees preparation of an annual index for the magazine, conducts research for the Grand Commander, and guides the publication of a variety of Supreme Council pamphlets, books, and other projects each year.

Brother Boettjer received his doctoral degree in American Thought and Civilization from The George Washington University. He was a research assistant with the Woodrow Wilson Foundation at the Library of Congress and a research fellow at Harvard University under a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. He also taught in the Maryland public school system, was a tenured professor in the English Department at The Virginia Military Institute, and taught at both Michigan State University in Lansing, and Edison Community College in Naples, Florida, before joining the Scottish Rite Journal in April 1989.

A dual member of Cypress Lodge No. 295 of Naples, Florida, and Henry Knox Field Lodge No. 349, Alexandria, Virginia, he is also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Alexandria, Virginia; Kena Shrine Temple, Fairfax, Virginia; York Rite Masons Mt. Vernon Chapter No. 3 R.A.M. and Adoniram–Zabud Council No. 2, Cryptic Masons, Washington, D.C.; the Royal Order of Scotland, and National Sojourners, Inc. Ill. Boettjer is a 1993 recipient of "The Distinguished Service Award" from The Philalethes Society and serves on the Steering Committee of the Masonic Information Center. He was elevated to the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction’s highest honor, the Grand Cross, in 1993.


LIBRARIAN AND CURATOR

Joan K. Sansbury has served as the Librarian of the Library of The Supreme Council, 33°, since 1993. Under her guidance, the Library has been fully refurbished from new UV-filtering windows and custom floor coverings to a state-of-the-art computer data base cataloging of the Library’s resources. Also, a large vault was constructed in the lower level of the House of the Temple for the safekeeping of the Library’s many rare and valuable books. As Curator, she initiated a special plan in 1997 to identify, evaluate, and restore the Library’s many unique holdings. The program is being conducted according to the highest archival standards and assures that the Library of The Supreme Council will maintain its position as a premier research site for Brethren and scholars from around the United States and world. In addition, the Library is open to the general public and participates in several community outreach programs. One is a "Children’s Hour" where local public and private school teachers with their students, as well as daycare providers and their charges, are welcomed to the Library and treated to readings, puppet shows, brief tours of the building, and light refreshments. Joan Sansbury is a graduate of the University of Maryland–College Park, and has a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She is a member of the American Library Association, the District of Columbia Library Association, and the Masonic Library and Museum Association.
