Young Martin Petersen is grateful to the Scottish Rite and, in particular, to Bro. John L. Engel, 32°, an 84-year-old member of the Valley of Baltimore, now living in Bradenton, Florida. Bro. Engel heard about the boy's speech difficulties from Martin's grandmother. A letter to the Scottish Rite Journal by Mary E. Petersen, Martin's mother, picks up the story from there.

"Martin was having much difficulty with his speech although he was receiving group therapy at his school. Mr. Engel referred Martin to the Scottish Rite Foundation of Florida, and we were able to take him for private therapy. Within the first couple of months, I could tell a drastic difference in Martin's speech, and I credit it all to the fine therapists at the Scottish Rite Clinic at the Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults at Palm Beach, Florida. They were wonderful with Martin, and when one therapist was unable to see him, another stepped in and made Martin feel comfortable and worked with him. We had to drive 45 minutes each way from Stuart, Florida, to attend these sessions, but the quality of care they provided him was well worth the drive. I thank Mr. Engel for his gracious and giving heart.

"The photo I am enclosing [above] is not of Martin and myself, but of Martin and one of his Speech Therapists, Ms. Leslie Kelly. I wanted Mr. Engel to see the product of his kindness, so I sent him the photo. I think it is wonderful of you to recognize the outstanding members of your organization. Mr. Engel is very deserving."
