PUBLIC SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Masonic background not required, but this program is available to United States citizens only for study at schools within the U.S.

The Supreme Council, 33°, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, makes available each year two scholarships for individuals who have completed master's degrees in some phase of education, to assist in attaining a doctoral degree in Public School Administration. The intent of the scholarships is to provide assistance to professional educators who have demonstrated competence in their fields, particularly in the field of administration, and who are unable to continue with graduate studies because of financial burdens imposed by growing families or other factors involved in raising a family. There should be evidence presented that without the financial assistance provided by the scholarship, the individual would not pursue futher graduate studies.

Applications for these scholarships will be accepted through March each year. Each scholarship is in the amount of $12,000 to be paid over a period of two years, i.e., $6,000 for each of two years, provided satisfactory academic work is maintained. Selection of the successful applicants and the announcement of their names will be made not later than April each year. Final selections and appointments will be at the sole discretion and determination of the Sovereign Grand Commander.

Individuals will be selected for the scholarships who are in mid-career and who have demonstrated that they are committed to public school education. An M.A. or M.S. Degree is a prerequisite.

In the selection process, priority will be given to those individuals who have had some experience in a responsible administrative position. The applicant's letters of recommendation should indicate integrity of character, integrity of purpose, and active participation in the social, civic and religious activities in their communities. Upon completion of the doctoral studies, the applicant should have not less than 15 years of service remaining in the field of public school education. Exceptions to this latter condition will be made when the application indicates that the quality of service already performed is so high and the potential for a significant contribution to public school education is so great that an exception is warranted and merited. Absence of experience in Public School Administration is not a bar to selection. However, it is a handicap when other applicants have had such experience and have performed successfully.

Applications should be addressed to the Director of Education, the Supreme Council, 33°, 1733 Sixteenth Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009-3103 on or before April 1 each year.
